Hottest Day of the Year has Arrived in Pee Dee & Grand Strand
On Monday, a sizzling start to the workweek was observed with the mercury levels hitting new highs of the year in Pee Dee and Grand Strand. The thermometer’s soaring value broke the previous records for the warmest temperatures of 2024 in both of these cities. With the summer season well underway, city residents are advised to stay cool and hydrated as the heat is anticipated to linger throughout the week.
Soaring Temperatures in Myrtle Beach and Florence
Myrtle Beach witnessed its highest temperature of the year thus far in the afternoon. The temperature at Myrtle Beach was not the only one that soared; that of Florence did as well! In fact, Florence saw the temperature rise above the round mark, hitting triple digits just in air temperature on Monday, June 24th.
This extraordinary rise in Florence’s temperature has broken the city’s June 24th record high for the day, which was previously 99 degrees Fahrenheit logged in 2015. Meanwhile, in Lumberton, the thermometer also recorded its highest air temperature of the year so far on June 24th.
Summer is in Full Swing
With the meteorological summer having commenced on June 1 and the astronomical summer beginning June 20, this summer season has only begun and has a long way to go. Considering these precedents, it is expected that these new temperature records will likely be surpassed in the time frame before the onset of the meteorological fall, which commences on September 1.

Residents across Pee Dee, Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach, Florence, and surrounding regions are advised to stay cool in the ensuing heatwave.
