BMW CEO Engelhorn to Address Florence Chamber

Robert Engelhorn, the current President and CEO of BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, is scheduled to speak at the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce 2024 Annual Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, September 25th.

Engelhorn, who joined the BMW group in 2011, has served in various plant-based positions in Germany before transferring to the BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) joint venture in China. While in China, he spearheaded the technology and production division for the Dadong and Tiexi plants.

Engelhorn’s background with BMW

From his oversees assignment, Engelhorn moved to BMW Group Plant Munich as the director. There, he prepared the plant for the production of the all-electric BMW i4. His success as a plant director resulted to his designation as president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg in 2021.

BMW’s investment in South Carolina

The BMW Group has been a significant investor in the South Carolina economy, having invested more than $13.3 billion in the state since 1992. Currently, BMW and AESC have formed a partnership in Florence to supply battery cells for next-generation electric vehicles. These battery cells will potentially be used in future models produced at BMW’s Spartanburg plant.

BMW’s impact in the auto industry

BMW Manufacturing is a leading presence in the global auto industry. The plant, known as one of the largest of all BMW Group plants worldwide, assembles over 1,500 vehicles each day. Impressively, more than half of its vehicles are exported to approximately 120 global markets, thereby making BMW the biggest automotive exporter by value in the United States for nine consecutive years.
