City of Florence Issues Boil Water Advisory Due to Water Service Disruption

Residents of the City of Florence should be aware that a boil water advisory has been issued affecting numerous areas of the city due to a disruption in water service. The written advisory has been created to alert residents following a water main break caused by a contractor, thus posing a potential health risk due to possible contamination risks.

Extent of the Boil Water Advisory

The affected areas in the city include the 1500 to 4500 Blocks of Old Marion Highway, Sand Pit Road, Phoenix Road, Deena Lane, Nena Lane, Creekside Drive, Wildcat Road, Woodville Road, 2100 to 2300 North Williston Road, and The Country Club of South Carolina. All water customers in these areas should exercise caution and follow the advice provided in the official notification to ensure their health and safety.

The water main break took place when a contractor accidentally damaged a ten-inch water line on the 3400 block of Old Marion Highway. This incident led to the disruption in water service within a significant part of the city.

Advisory and Precautionary Measures

According to the advisory, customers should boil their tap water for a full minute before utilization once water service is restored. This includes for cooking, drinking, or even washing dishes. Though there has yet to be any definitive evidence of contamination in the water supply, the loss of pressure from the disruption does create potential for bacteriological contamination, city officials stated.

The City of Florence will maintain the boil water advisory until further notice. Once the bacteriological quality can be ascertained through tests – anticipated to be completed by Saturday – the city authorities will communicate further updates regarding the maintenance or lifting of the boil water advisory.

Current Situation

As of this moment, the city and its water staff are ardently working towards concluding the tests and restoring water service to the obstructed areas. In the meantime, they encourage all residents within the affected area to adhere strictly to this boil water advisory for the benefit of their health and safety. Measures are being taken to restore normalcy at the earliest possible.

Staying Informed

For further updates and important alerts, residents are advised to stay connected with the City of Florence’s official channels. Signing up for news alerts and regular updates can provide timely information aiding in the precautionary measures to be taken.

As always, the safety and wellbeing of the city’s residents are of paramount importance. The city wants to remind residents that these measures are precautionary to ensure public health and safety.
