Celebrating Academic Excellence in Florence
Florence, SC – It’s a sunny day here in Florence, with temperatures reaching a pleasant 66°F and a light breeze giving everyone a hint of that lovely fall season. As the leaves are beginning to change colors, there’s another reason for the residents to celebrate: the recognition of outstanding academic achievers in our community.
Meet Caitlin Cooksey
This month, we shine the spotlight on Caitlin Cooksey, a dedicated senior at King’s Academy. At just 17 years old, Caitlin has been selected as the female Academic Achiever for October. This accolade is reserved for students who excel both in their studies and in their contributions to the community. Caitlin plans to enroll at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where she aims to pursue a career in nursing.
Can you believe it? Each month, public and private schools from Florence and Darlington counties submit entries for this special recognition. A panel of judges carefully reviews these entries to select the winners, who will all be celebrated at a banquet at the end of the school year. Isn’t that exciting?
A Peek into Caitlin’s Life
So, what makes Caitlin tick? When asked about her favorite local eatery, she proudly mentions, “Konnichiwa.” It seems like a hotspot for delicious food around here! And to brighten her days, Caitlin adores her English setter, Rusty. “Something that makes me smile,” she says with a twinkle in her eye. It’s heartwarming to see such a strong bond between a girl and her dog.
Turning to her interests, Caitlin shows her competitive spirit with her love for volleyball, and she unwinds by binge-watching Gilmore Girls. We all need a little escape, right? Among her proudest achievements, she highlights receiving a scholar’s award last year. She credits her success to maintaining good grades and sticking to a strict schedule to ensure everything gets done on time. Talk about dedication!
A Heart for Community Service
What drives Caitlin to get involved in her community? “Outreach,” she explains. Her passion for helping others shines through as she talks about the various community service projects she has embraced. “I love working in my community, and just doing all these different things that I know I can do to help other people.” How inspiring is that?
As a natural leader, Caitlin defines good leadership as “being someone who someone would want to look up to.” With such positive views on leadership, it’s no wonder that she considers Mrs. Laura Graham as her biggest role model and mentor.
