Florence, S.C. is buzzing with news as the police have recently wrapped up their investigation into a summer shooting incident that left the community on edge. The Florence Police Department has officially announced the final arrests linked to this troubling event, which took place on July 29.
In a series of developments this week, a juvenile was taken into custody on Thursday, facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. This marks the third juvenile arrest in connection with the shooting, bringing the overall number of suspects involved up to a total of seven. That’s a lot of young faces in a serious situation!
Earlier in the week, two notable arrests were made when 20-year-old Ta’leya Sellers and another minor were apprehended on Wednesday. Prior to those arrests, 19-year-old Da’Mari Hyman was charged on Tuesday. The investigation has charged a total of four adults—Sellers, Hyman, and two other young men, Omarion James and Triston Davis—with attempted murder and related weapons offenses.
According to the police, this chaotic incident started in the area of Christopher Lane, where several mobile homes became targets of gunfire. Luckily, police confirmed that although bullets struck three homes and one juvenile victim, there were no reported injuries. That’s a relief, but it certainly raises concerns about safety in the neighborhood.
Authorities did some detective work and discovered a suspicious vehicle they believe was involved in the shooting. As they examined the vehicle for clues, they found fingerprints belonging to both James and Davis. As if that wasn’t enough to tie them to the scene, authorities say James admitted he was inside the car during the shooting, with Davis right there beside him.
At present, Sellers, Hyman, James, and Davis are all held at the Florence County Detention Center, while the juveniles are being housed at the Department of Juvenile Justice. They face serious charges, and as the investigations continue, the community is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for safety.
In their statement, the Florence Police Department expressed gratitude for the hard work of their officers and investigative teams. “We are thankful to our officers and investigation team who diligently worked to solve this crime and not only bring justice for the victim(s) but to ensure our community is safer each day,” said a department spokesperson. It’s a sigh of relief for many residents who just want to enjoy peace in their homes.
With all seven suspects now reportedly in custody, Florence can breathe a little easier knowing that authorities are taking strong measures to ensure safety. As the story unfolds, residents are encouraged to stay informed and maintain communication with local law enforcement to keep their community secure. The town of Florence is working hard to recover from this unsettling incident, and hopefully, brighter days are ahead!
