Augusta Kicks Off Women’s Tennis Season with a Bang!

Augusta, Georgia, is buzzing with excitement as the Augusta University Women’s Tennis Team launches into their 2025 season with a convincing 6-1 victory over Benedict College! The competition took place on February 4, 2025, at the Richland Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C., and the energy was palpable.

Doubles Domination

Right from the start, the Augusta ladies showcased their prowess by seizing the first point of the match through their outstanding doubles performance. The dynamic duo of Andrea Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a solid 6-2 win. But they weren’t the only ones making waves! Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma absolutely dominated their match at No. 2 doubles, producing a stunning 6-0 victory. Talk about a power play!

Singles Success

Transitioning to singles, the Augusta team continued their successful excursion, winning five out of the six matches. Luciana Bejarano and Juliana Martinez were particularly impressive, both capturing their respective matches with an eye-popping score of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Who doesn’t love a clean sweep?

Not to be outdone, Priscilla Landi also contributed to the team’s extensive lead with a confident 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Meanwhile, Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio enjoyed default victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. The crowd must have been roaring!

However, amidst all the victories, Andrea Gonzalez faced a tough challenge at No. 1 singles, ultimately falling to Valerie Essome from Benedict with a score of 6-2, 6-4. But overall, the team performance was incredibly strong, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season.

Spotlight on Priscilla Landi

One of the standout players was Priscilla Landi, a junior who originates from the beautiful province of Misiones, Argentina. Landi made a life-changing move to the capital of Argentina at just 16 years old to pursue her tennis ambitions. She was inspired by her sister, who also came to the U.S. to chase her own tennis dreams.

Since picking up a racket at the tender age of three, Landi has shown a fierce competitive spirit, overcoming her initial struggles to become a key player for Augusta. Besides smashing balls on the court, she’s also focused on her studies, majoring in cyber security. With dreams of pursuing a master’s degree and eager to expand her education further, it’s clear that Landi is just as driven off the court as she is on it.

Navigating life in a foreign country can be daunting, but Landi has blossomed during her time at Augusta University. Though she initially struggled with the English language and shyness, she’s grown more confident in her communication skills. Embracing her college experience, she fondly reminisces about her significant contributions to the team and the friendships she’s nurtured along the way.

A Taste of Home and Future Dreams

While Landi enjoys her adventure in Augusta, she has her sights set on exploring more of the U.S. She’s visited various places like New York, Florida, Tennessee, and Miami, but still finds herself missing the flavors of home, especially her favorite dish, asado. When she’s not on the tennis court, Landi unwinds by playing golf, listening to music, cooking, and indulging in well-deserved naps.

As for her future travel plans, Landi dreams of basking in the sunshine of the Maldives, drawn to its tropical paradise vibes. Although living alone in a different country has its challenges, she maintains strong connections with family and friends back home, returning when she can to recharge her spirit.

All in all, Landi holds her decision to study at Augusta University close to her heart, relishing the friendships, memorable experiences, and triumphant victories that continue to shape her journey. With such a fantastic start to the season, one can only wonder what is next for the Augusta University Women’s Tennis Team!
