Florence is buzzing with excitement as the newly established Boxwood Distillery opened its doors to a fantastic grand opening release party on November 9th. With a stunning turnout of around 400 guests and 500 cocktails served, the festivities were truly a hit!
After months in soft opening mode, Boxwood Distillery is now ready to dazzle spirits enthusiasts with its delightful array of products. Thanks to a liquor license received back in November 2023, this lively distillery has expanded its offerings to include not just rums and shine (also known as moonshine), but also a selection of whiskeys and bourbons. The owner, Jack Marchette, is thrilled to share his heritage and passion for crafting these delightful spirits. Interestingly, Marchette’s ancestors were in the spirit-making business back in the 1800s, and it’s safe to say that this venture is a nod to family tradition.
The grand opening was nothing short of a festival. Attendees were treated to distillery tours, tastings, and an array of creative cocktails designed by the distillery’s master mixologist, Rob Stellato. Local food trucks filled the air with tantalizing aromas, while three spirited bands set the mood with live music. It’s no wonder the energy was as high as the sunny skies above, with temperatures reaching a pleasant 68°F. Not too hot, not too cold – just right for raising a glass!
Jack expressed his gratitude to family and friends who came together to make this dream a reality. “It’s a family and friend adventure,” he shared with a beaming smile, noting how each person brought their unique skills to the table. His wife, Beth Marchette, encouraged Jack to pivot from his hobby into a full-fledged business, and it looks like her support has really paid off.
Chris Canfield, a longtime friend and the distillery’s brand and marketing manager, played a significant role in shaping its vision. From developing the rum line to crafting captivating marketing materials, he echoed Jack’s sentiments about teamwork. “We want quality over quantity,” he emphasized, a mantra that seems to resonate with everyone involved in this venture.
With whiskey and bourbon requiring a minimum aging period of six months for optimal flavor, the wait for such offerings was intentional. Jack wanted to ensure the best products were available for the distillery’s release party, which, judging by the positive response, has certainly paid off. Now, with both aged and unaged spirits on offer, customers will find a range of options that suit various palates.
Master mixologist Rob Stellato has been busy curating cocktails that fit the season. Transitioning from summer to fall, the cocktail menu now features autumn-themed drinks that warm the heart as much as the spirit. “We love seeing the community’s support, especially after such a successful event,” Rob said, beaming with pride. While cocktails can only contain up to 1.5 ounces of liquor due to licensing regulations, Stellato’s creative flair ensures that every sip is packed with flavor.
As the distillery progresses, Jack and his team are already brainstorming future plans. Currently operating on a limited schedule with hours from 1 PM – 6 PM on Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 AM – 4 PM on Saturdays, the Boxwood team is evaluating how to expand its evening hours to better serve its patrons. “We’re going to give it a try and see what works,” Jack stated, hinting at potential exciting changes ahead.
With a passion for spirits and a commitment to community, Boxwood Distillery is surely a bright new gem in Florence. If you haven’t stopped by yet, what are you waiting for? Cheers to great times and unforgettable flavors ahead!
