(Mount Olive, NC): Get ready, once again, for your hearts to swell with pride as University of Mount Olive’s premier acapella group, Carolina Sound, is all prepared to deliver a soul-stirring rendition of the National Anthem at the highly anticipated NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway, scheduled on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
A representative from Darlington Raceway, entranced by the group’s performance, extended the esteemed invitation, making for a magnificent opportunity for Carolina Sound to radiate their patriotic zeal.
Carolina Sound is renowned for their respectful and distinctive performances. Director Lester Rector reminisced about a profound moment in his career when he and his wife Holly brought the National Anthem to life at a major sports event. He recalled a player from the home team who expressed his gratitude to them for a performance focussed on the anthem’s sanctity rather than their personal glory.
“That compliment has resonated with me since then,” Rector said. He emphasized that the group’s aim is not to be the spotlight but to illuminate the National Anthem’s deep-rooted essence and the unity it represents for the nation.
“Our arrangement seeks to echo the unity we belong to as one nation, with a smattering of our signature vocal elegance by the end,” Rector explained.
Rector further expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming NASCAR event and how much this means to the group. He stated, “Darlington accommodates 63,000 people, and given this is a CUP race, the energy will be sky-high. Our students are thrilled to represent UMO and our nation on such an esteemed stage.”
This performance will put the students and the University of Mount Olive in the national eye, providing them the golden opportunity to showcase their remarkable talent.
UMO’s Carolina Sound, in its fifth successful year, is a dynamic group comprising new and returning members, both male and female vocalists. As a ministry recruitment group, Carolina Sound serves a dual mission: to recruit both for Jesus and the University of Mount Olive. Each performance is viewed as a new prospect to deliver upon their calling.
Following their performance at Darlington Raceway, Carolina Sound is scheduled to make other stops as part of their comprehensive calendar. They plan on delivering captivating performances at theater shows from North Carolina to Florida, and at 30-40 high schools. The group also plans to release a few new singles and a music video this fall.
Their music is available on iTunes. Videos showcasing their performances can be accessed on various social media platforms. For more updates and announcements, stay connected with Carolina Sound on social media or visit their official website at UMO.edu/carolinasound or www.carolinasound.co.
