Sponsor Our ArticlesIn Florence County, allegations of child abuse have led to the arrest of four individuals connected to Maranatha Christian School. The case revolves around serious accusations, including failing to report abuse and unlawful conduct towards children. Community members are outraged, expressing concerns about a possible cover-up and the safety of their children. The legal proceedings will continue, with a court date set for April 2, and a civil lawsuit has also been initiated. As the investigation unfolds, the community seeks answers and accountability.
In the cozy town of Florence County, residents have been rocked by troubling news surrounding alleged child abuse at Maranatha Christian School. On February 10, four individuals found themselves in hot water following accusations that have sent shockwaves through the community.
The individuals charged include:
The allegations are quite serious, particularly against Boyce, who is accused of slamming a child’s head into a crib and handling other children roughly while they played outside. These claims have raised numerous eyebrows, not just because of the severity but also due to a suggested pattern of incidents that might have been covered up at the school. According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, reports indicate the school had a history of hiding incidents of child abuse and neglect.
Remarkably, the investigation suggests that the school administrators received reports of troubling behavior as far back as 2011, implicating Boyce in several abuse cases throughout the years. Parents are understandably upset, expressing concerns during hearings about an apparent culture at the school that may have facilitated a cover-up of abusive conduct.
Elmore, Kirven, and Patrick have been allowed to post bond set at $6,000 each, leading to their release from jail. However, a judge denied requests from these individuals to attend church services or increase preaching schedules, perhaps sensing the mistrust lingering in the community.
During the court hearings, parents stepped forward to testify about ongoing issues concerning child safety, highlighting that their concerns were not new but rather part of a troubling pattern. The prosecution indicated that a significant amount of evidence exists, suggesting the school did not fulfill its responsibilities to report mishandlings and abuse, as mandated by South Carolina law for professionals working with children.
The next court date for the four accused individuals is set for April 2, during General Sessions Court, where their fates will continue to unfold before a judge. Meanwhile, a pending civil lawsuit is in motion, led by an attorney representing the Royal family, who claims their child was among those abused.
The community of Florence County now faces a storm of emotions—anger, disbelief, and fear for the safety of their children. As this case develops, many are looking for answers, accountability, and assurance that such troubling incidents will never take place again.
As the gears of justice begin to turn, both support and concern radiate throughout the town as residents seek to protect their little ones in the wake of such harrowing allegations.
