Cloud cover to persist through Saturday

Cloud cover to persist through Saturday

MYRTLE BEACH – A sense of gloom prevails over the Grand Strand extending to the regions of the Pee Dee and the border belt. Blame is being directed towards a tenacious low-pressure system off the coast which is causing fuss with a counter-clockwise spin, bringing about breezy and cloudy conditions across the regions. In an interesting twist, the showers associated with this spin have remained primarily off-shore. However, this does not imply complete reprieve as the cloudy and breezy conditions imposing on the generally sunny disposition of the area will continue to dampen spirits tonight and into Saturday.

A Comfortable Relief

Taking a look at the temperatures, overnight lows are expected to drop to the low 60s inland. However, if you are residing in the border belt regions, temperatures may lean towards a cooler upper 50s. Grand Strand residents, on the other hand, can look forward to more temperate weather with temperatures veering between the mid to upper 60s. It might not be overwhelmingly cool, but the less humid conditions should provide a pleasant relief, given that we are in the peak of late August. This is sure to come as good news for High School Football game attendees tonight.

A Chance of Showers

On Saturday, the lingering cool air will nudge its way into the area, bringing in its wake a slight chance of showers on the coastal areas. A total washout is not on the cards, however, there is a good 20-30% chance of catching sight of an isolated shower between late morning and afternoon hours along the Grand Strand. The accompanying warmth of Saturday does not plan to hold back; with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s across the Pee Dee and border belt. Depending the balance that showers maintain, Grand Strand might fall back and endure temperatures in mid-80s.

A Gradual Return to Normalcy

As we inch closer to Sunday and gaze upon the week ahead, the summer-like pattern that residents are all too familiar with, plans on making a comeback over the Grand Strand, Pee Dee and border belt. This includes the majority of North and South Carolina as well. As the high-pressure system subtly adjusts, the winds are expected to blow from the familiar south and east directions. This will usher in warmer temperatures, escalating humidity levels, and potential for afternoon storms. A sign that we are embracing typical weather patterns just as we approach the Labor Day weekend.

This slightly uncomfortable weather disruption stands as a stark reminder that despite our advancements; nature will always maintain dominion over our lives and our plans.
