Carolus Isaiah, William Gordon, Stephanie Brown Stone, and Brittany Matthews are remembered for their devotion to loved ones and their contributions to the community. As tributes pour in, their spirits continue to inspire those they touched, highlighting the profound connections fostered within the community.
The city is currently wrapped in a cloud of grief as it acknowledges the untimely loss of four beloved community members. Each one touched the lives of family and friends in unique ways, leaving a lasting legacy that will be deeply missed.
Carolus “Chaun” Isaiah, who passed away on December 6, 2024, at the age of 48, was a pillar of the community. Born on March 16, 1976, in Florence County, Chaun was raised in a loving family led by his mother Christine and late father Daniel Isaiah, Jr. A proud graduate of South Florence High School, Chaun ventured into the world of business and became the owner of several successful ventures including Isaiah Bail Bonding, Keep It Clean Pressure Washing, and A-Cam Towing.
His devotion to his family was evident as he married Michaela P. Isaiah on April 23, 2022, and became a father to two beautiful children, Camden and Cadynn Isaiah. Despite the heartache of losing his wife earlier this year, Chaun’s spirit remained strong, and he cherished his family all the more. He is survived by a large family, including step-daughter Tiara Graham, siblings, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as friends who will forever remember his warmth and laughter.
Another loss felt deeply in the community is that of William Earl “Billy” Gordon, who departed on July 28, 2024, in Kingstree, SC. Born on July 16, 1973, Billy grew up in Florence County, being educated in local public schools and later graduating from Hannah-Pamplico High School in 1991. A lover of the great outdoors, he could often be found deer hunting or fishing by the river, sharing joyous moments with family and friends.
Billy was deeply rooted in his family, leaving behind his mother Mary Alma Gordon, children, and a sister, along with numerous grandchildren. His hometown friends remember him fondly, emphasizing his genuine spirit and passion for life. Billy’s absence leaves a void that will be impossible to fill, but his memory will live on through those who loved him dearly.
Stephanie Brown Stone passed away on November 17, 2024, after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a cherished legacy. Born in Marion, SC, she devoted much of her life to serving others, first as an Executive Secretary for PeeDee Electric and later as a beloved member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she worked in the Rowdy Bunch Sunday School.
Stephanie’s remarkable involvement with the Omar Shrine and dedication to the Children’s Shriner Hospital highlights her generous and giving nature. She loved family trips to the beach, creating lasting memories that she’ll now watch over from above. Her survivors include a son, daughter, step-daughter, siblings, grandchildren, and a special friend who will deeply miss her guidance and love.
Brittany Matthews sadly left us on August 4, 2024, at only 34 years old. Born on December 24, 1989, Brittany was known for her fun-loving spirit, intelligence, and infectious laughter that brightened any room. She was a dedicated family member, deeply passionate about life and sharing joyful moments, especially those spent at the beach.
Though her life was tragically cut short, Brittany’s impact continues to resonate with her surviving family, including her father, siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials in her honor may be made to Carolina Funeral Home, as the family seeks to celebrate her incredible journey even in her absence.
The community stands united in this time of mourning, recalling the remarkable lives of Chaun, Billy, Stephanie, and Brittany. Their stories will continue to inspire those who remain, keeping their memories alive in the hearts of everyone they touched.
