Conway Residents on Edge After Burglary Incident Involving Local Solicitor

Conway, S.C. — A shocking series of events unfolded in our area on Friday when a car chase led to the arrest of two men connected to a burglary at the home of 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson. Just when we’re thinking our community is a safe haven, this incident reminded us to stay vigilant!

What Happened?

According to reports, two suspects were taken into custody following their involvement in a car chase that started after Richardson’s home was broken into earlier that day. Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the break-in, but the crime left a sense of unease hanging in the air. There were broken glass pieces scattered around the scene, indicating a forced entry.

Richardson himself confirmed the harrowing event, explaining, “I was alerted by my Ring security camera, which showed the thieves smashing a window to get inside.” It just goes to show how important it is to have security measures in place!

The Chase and Arrest

After the burglary, Richardson didn’t waste any time. He reached out to a neighbor who works for the Horry County police. That quick thinking led to an immediate response from the authorities, who quickly assembled, ready to take action. As the chase unfolded along Highway 378, local officers from both Conway and Horry County were hot on the trail of the suspects, ultimately apprehending them in the Pitts Landing area. Just think about that rush of adrenaline for all involved!

Who Are the Suspects?

By Friday afternoon, the suspects had been identified as Kristopher Wooten and Quincey Sapp. Authorities have reported that both men are also linked to a string of burglaries in Florence County, making this case even more concerning for residents. The burglaries in Florence County occurred both late Thursday morning and afternoon in areas known as Thornblade Drive and the Queensferry and Wellesly Court neighborhoods.

Community Response

Richardson has expressed his gratitude towards all the law enforcement agencies involved, saying, “They did an incredible job.” His admiration is a reminder that teamwork can make a huge difference in our community’s safety. He emphasizes the importance of home security cameras, highlighting that, without his system, the outcome could have been much different.

In light of these events, Richardson has also decided to step back from prosecuting the case, acknowledging his position as a victim. He has been serving as the solicitor since December 2012, after being appointed by former Governor Nikki Haley.

Final Thoughts

This incident serves as a reminder for all of us living in Conway and surrounding areas to be aware of our surroundings. Whether it’s investing in a good security system like Richardson did or simply being neighborly and looking out for each other, we can all play a part in maintaining the safety of our lovely community.

As the investigation continues, let’s keep an eye on local updates and support our law enforcement as they work hard to keep criminals off our streets. Stay safe, everyone!
