Warm Welcome to Fall in Myrtle Beach

Today marks the official start of the fall season, and Myrtle Beach is kicking it off in style! Residents and visitors alike can expect some of the warmest weather we’ve seen this month. As you step outside, you’ll likely feel temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and even flirting with the 90-degree mark, especially in the Pee Dee area. If you’re at the coast, you can anticipate slightly cooler weather in the mid-80s, but don’t let that fool you—the heat index is going to push things up to around 95 degrees inland!

Sunny Skies Ahead

The beautiful weather isn’t just a one-day affair; high pressure has settled in over the area, promising a few more warm days ahead. This sunshine-filled spell will stick around until Tuesday, making it a perfect time to head to the beach, enjoy outdoor dining, or take a long walk along the shoreline.

Rain on the Horizon

But hold on! The weather gods have a few surprises for us. Starting Wednesday, we may see some isolated rain chances. And as if that wasn’t enough, it looks like tropical moisture—essentially a lot of moisture-laden air—is expected to make its way up from the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday and Friday. This could bring some rain, and while it’s a bit early to make any promises, there’s a possibility that the rain could linger into Saturday.

What’s Brewing in the Tropics?

Speaking of happenings, there’s something brewing out in the northern Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico. Experts are predicting that an area of low pressure may develop by Monday or Tuesday. There’s talk that it could become our next named storm, likely to be called Helene. While we’re still in the early stages of tracking it, the National Hurricane Center has given this potential system a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression.

Prepared for Landfall

If forecasts hold true, we could be seeing another storm making landfall in the U.S., potentially bringing winds strong enough to classify it as a Category 1 hurricane. The timing of this could have it arriving around Thursday afternoon or Friday. If that all pans out, it would make Helene the fourth system to make landfall during the 2024 hurricane season, following in the footsteps of storms like Beryl, Debby, and Francine—all of which were also Category 1 hurricanes when they struck.

Keeping an Eye on Tropical Waves

And for those who are curious, there are also a couple of additional waves off the coast of Africa that may stir things up in the coming week. However, given their location, they won’t steal the spotlight just yet. Right now, we’re focused on Helene and any potential impact it may have as it moves toward the U.S.

Stay Prepared, Myrtle Beach!

So, what does this all mean for you, the folks of Myrtle Beach? As the warm fall days greet us with open arms, take advantage of the sunny weather! Plan outdoor activities, but also keep an eye on the forecast as the week progresses. Having your emergency kits ready and staying informed about the incoming weather can surely help ease any anxiety about what’s on the horizon.

Here’s hoping for sunny skies today, and while the possibility of rain and storms looms, let’s savor this beautiful start to fall in Myrtle Beach!
