Florence, S.C. – If you’re looking for some exciting football action, you need to catch the Florence Christian Eagles this season! With a fantastic record of 3-0, the team has been turning heads with their balanced offensive attack and impressive teamwork. As they gear up for a big game against Pee Dee Academy, let’s dive into what’s working so well for the Eagles this year.
After graduating key players like Juels Huntley, who racked up nearly 2,000 rushing yards and almost 30 touchdowns last year, the Eagles knew they needed to change things up. Coach Neil Minton shared, “When you have a dynamic player, you want to get him as many touches as you can.” But now, the focus isn’t just on one player. Instead, there’s a collaborative effort to create a more well-rounded game plan, appealing to the talented group of playmakers at the school.
This season, the Eagles are showcasing their diversity on the field. With 216 rushing yards and 111 passing yards on average per game, they are truly keeping opponents guessing. Senior Dylan Fredrick pointed out how different this year feels, saying, “In years past we’ve really been known as a running team… This year we’re really focusing on spreading the ball out more, which is nice.”
With nine different players carrying the ball and seven players catching passes, it’s clear that every player is stepping up to the plate. Fredrick himself has already made an impact with four catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
One of the most exciting developments has been the performance of freshman quarterback Riley Minton. With impressive stats including 334 yards passing and four touchdowns without a single interception, Minton has proven to be a reliable leader on the field. “We knew we had a young quarterback coming up, but our seniors are really trying to lift everybody up and encourage them,” said senior wide receiver Austin Johnson.
Each matchup this season has been unique, requiring the team to adapt their strategy. The Eagles have utilized their passing game significantly against certain teams, while leaning more on their power running game in others. Johnson explained how they come into games, saying, “We come in with about 10 plays that we’re planning on doing and see how the defense adjusts to what we do.” This flexibility has allowed them to exploit weaknesses in opposing defenses effectively.
Even as individual players shine, the Eagles maintain a strong sense of teamwork. Coach Minton emphasized that it’s not just about following a specific game plan but rather feeling out what’s working during the game. “You want to keep the ball in the hands of the people who are hot,” he mentioned.
As the Eagles look forward to their showdown this Friday against Pee Dee Academy, their confidence remains high. With each member contributing to this multifaceted offense, it’s clear that the Florence Christian Eagles are a force to be reckoned with this season. It’s going to be an exciting matchup you won’t want to miss!
So, whether you’re a lifelong fan or just someone looking for some Friday night fun, come and support the Eagles as they continue their fantastic run!
