Florence County, S.C. has seen a devastating weekend as two separate car crashes have resulted in the loss of three lives and left several others injured. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the community, reminding everyone of the fragility of life on the roads.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, around 6:40 a.m., a serious collision occurred on US Highway 52, near Clement Street. A 2008 Lexus LS 460 was heading northbound when it collided with a 2001 Ford Mustang traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was significant, instantly changing the lives of those involved.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) immediately rushed to the scene, providing care to the driver of the Lexus. Thankfully, they survived the crash but sustained injuries that required hospitalization. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Mustang tragically lost their life at the scene, marking a heartbreaking start to the weekend for their friends and family.
The sorrow in Florence County didn’t end there. Just a day later, on Monday evening, at approximately 6:15 p.m., another fatal accident occurred on West John Paul Jones Road near Cumming Road. This time, a 2011 Kia SUV traveling south collided head-on with a 2023 Chevrolet SUV that was making its way north.
Sadly, both drivers in this incident were pronounced dead on-site. The Florence County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify the victims, leaving their loved ones in a state of uncertainty during this difficult time. Fortunately, reports indicate no other injuries from this tragic crash.
Within Florence County, recent statistics are equally alarming. Six fatalities have already been reported in 2025, with a total of 25 deaths recorded throughout the entire year of 2024. Each tragic accident underscores the need for awareness and vigilance while on the road.
