The incidents have raised serious concerns about drug trafficking in the community, prompting calls for action from residents. With alarming quantities of illegal substances being discovered, law enforcement is under pressure to combat these escalating drug-related crimes.
Florence County, S.C. has become the center of attention this week following two significant drug-related incidents that have left the community buzzing. Both incidents occurred in rapid succession, troubling residents and raising concerns about the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the area.
The first incident took place on a calm Wednesday afternoon, but quickly turned into anything but mundane. Police stopped a vehicle in the McLeod Health parking lot after a FLOCK camera flagged it near the hospital. Inside the car sat a man named Mina Georgy, who had outstanding warrants for grand larceny and theft from a vehicle in Richland County. Georgy’s traffic violation turned into a far bigger concern when police discovered numerous loose pills in his pockets.
While Georgy tried to maintain an air of normalcy by stating that he worked as a pharmacist at McLeod Health, a detailed search of his vehicle revealed a shocking stash. Authorities found a stolen gun and over 750 dosage units of medications that included tramadol, buspirone hydrochloride, and aripiprazole. Turns out, the stolen gun was also linked to his previous theft charges.
As a result of these discoveries, authorities charged Georgy with unlawful possession of a firearm and he was booked into the Florence County Detention Center. Records indicate that he has since been transferred to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County. Meanwhile, McLeod Health has confirmed that Georgy was indeed an employee. However, they also stated that he has been placed on administrative leave as they fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The hospital stressed that Georgy’s legal troubles have no connection to his professional role.
A thorough search revealed a cardboard box containing nearly 7 pounds of fentanyl. With estimates suggesting that this quantity holds the potential for over 300,000 doses of the potent drug, the street value soared above $3 million. The local sheriff noted that taking such a massive amount of fentanyl out of circulation could potentially save over a million lives.
Aguilar now faces serious charges of trafficking in fentanyl and is waiting for a bond hearing at the Florence County Detention Center. His case represents the second significant drug bust in the area in just a few weeks, following another incident involving a $500,000 cocaine seizure.
In these tumultuous times, it’s crucial for residents to stay aware of their surroundings and remain vigilant as local law enforcement ramps up efforts to combat drug-related crimes. The recent arrests serve as a stark reminder of the complexities and real dangers tied to substance abuse and trafficking, and they highlight the importance of continuing to address these pressing issues.
