Florence County, S.C. — This month, the Florence County Museum is throwing a big birthday bash! Can you believe it has been ten years since the museum made its home in the heart of downtown Florence? From October 11 to 13, the community is invited to mark this milestone with a host of fun activities and celebrations at the museum, located at 111 West Cheves Street.
It all started back in September 2008, when the *Florence County Council* established the Florence County Museum Board. This decision came after they secured a generous funding match from the State of South Carolina. The board is made up of nine dedicated individuals who bring unique perspectives from each county district. Their goal? To lay the groundwork for a cultural gem that would serve the community.
Thanks to the vision and generosity of the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation and the county’s funding, plans for the museum began to take shape. In 2009, Florence County hired the architectural firm of Watson Tate Savory, with the help of Cooper Robertson and Partners. Together, they designed a beautiful building that sits proudly at the corner of Cheves and Dargan Streets, seamlessly integrating the past, present, and future of Florence County.
On October 12, 2014, after years of planning and effort, the Florence County Museum officially opened its doors to the public. The facility quickly became a treasure trove for locals and visitors alike, showcasing the rich history and culture of the Pee Dee region, the state of South Carolina, and beyond.
Now, as the museum celebrates ten fantastic years in downtown, it’s also marking nearly a century of service as an institution. The upcoming events from October 11 to 13 promise to be engaging and memorable, catering to all ages and interests. Whether you’re an art lover, history buff, or just looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone.
Throughout the weekend, you can look forward to special exhibitions, interactive activities, and perhaps even some surprise guests. The museum is keen to reflect on its ten-year journey, showcasing how it has become a cornerstone of the community. Want to find out more about what’s happening? It’s a great idea to check the museum’s website for a detailed schedule of events.
The Florence County Museum isn’t just a place to visit—it’s a hub of culture and community pride. It offers educational programs, art exhibitions, and historical displays that enrich the lives of everyone who walks through its doors. The team at the museum has worked tirelessly to create a welcoming environment where guests can explore and learn.
As we gather together to celebrate this significant milestone, let’s take a moment to appreciate how far the museum has come and what it has achieved in just ten years. It’s a momentous occasion that deserves a festive atmosphere, and the museum is rolling out the red carpet for you and your family.
So grab your calendar and mark down the dates! Join in the fun, make some memories, and discover all the treasures the Florence County Museum has to offer. Here’s to another exciting decade of art, culture, and community spirit!
