Florence County Museum Marks 10th Anniversary with Three-Day Celebration of Art and Culture

Florence Celebrates a Decade of Art and Culture

Florence, a vibrant city with a rich history, is gearing up to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its beloved Florence County Museum. Located right in the heart of downtown Florence, the museum has become a cherished destination for both locals and visitors alike. From October 11 to 13, it’s going to be a three-day extravaganza filled with exciting events that everyone can enjoy!

Mark Your Calendars!

Whether you are an art aficionado, a history buff, or just looking for a fun way to spend your weekend, there’s something for everyone at this anniversary celebration. The festivities kick off on Friday, October 11, with a chance to explore the art and culture of Lake City. There will be guided tours leaving from the museum at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.. Tour-goers will head to the charming Bean Market in Lake City. The cost of the tour is just $10, but make sure you register in advance!

A Day of Fun on October 12

Saturday is packed with activities sure to entertain. Starting bright and early at 9 a.m., the Palmetto Cruisers Car Show will rev its engines on Cheves Street, and the best part? It’s free for the public! For those who want to enter their classic cars, registration costs just $25.

Food lovers will rejoice because food trucks will be stationed nearby from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., serving delicious bites throughout the day. And let’s not forget about the garden enthusiasts! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the museum will partner with Healy Horticulture for a fall plant sale in support of the new Pee Dee Botanical Garden, featuring rare and unique plants that you won’t find elsewhere.

Learn and Create

On the educational front, the Archaeological Institute of the Pee Dee will be hosting a series of intriguing lectures from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. focusing on local history and archaeological discoveries in our area. Who knows what you might learn?

If you’re coming with family, the Family Day activity from 1-3 p.m. is perfect for kids. Children can get hands-on inspiration from the museum’s Southwestern pottery collection by creating their own screen-printed pottery vessel to take home!

Evening Entertainment

The evening is where things really heat up. Starting at 6 p.m., guests can enjoy a concert featuring the Flashback Party Band in the museum’s lovely courtyard, playing hits that span the decades. Be sure to bring your own seating, settle in, and dance the night away with food trucks and a cash bar on site!

Wrapping Up with Sweet Celebrations

Sunday, October 13, brings the final day of celebration, with more tours and, of course, cake! The Second Sunday Tours will feature a docent-led tour of the Pee Dee History Gallery from 2:15 to 3 p.m.. Don’t forget to join the community in celebrating a decade at the museum with cake and refreshments at 3 p.m.. This gathering is free for everyone, so come on down!

A Look Ahead!

If you love art, make sure to stop by the Dr. N. Lee Morris Gallery at the Florence County Library starting October 10 through January 17 to catch the incredible works of local artist Jane Jackson. She captures the essence of southern life through beautiful watercolors, and her reception will be on October 10, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.—all free to the public!

Florence is bursting with creativity and community during this exciting anniversary! With tons of fun activities planned, you’re sure to find something that sparks your interest. So grab your friends and family and head on out to celebrate all things Florence County!
