The community of Waterford, PA, is grieving the loss of Florence ‘Flo’ Gray Boyles, who passed away at 84. A cherished family member and dedicated community member, her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and many friends she touched throughout her life.
In the heart of Waterford, PA, a profound sense of loss echoes through the community following the passing of Florence “Flo” Gray Boyles, who left this world at the age of 84 on Thursday, November 14, 2024. A cherished member of her family, Florence was born on August 24, 1940, and she became a beacon of light for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Having been born to the late Theodore and Esther Gray, Flo’s family roots ran deep in the area. She went on to marry her dear husband, Donald E. Boyles, on July 2, 1977. Their partnership was one of love and support, a foundation that helped guide their family through life’s ups and downs. Although her beloved Donald has preceded her in death, the legacy they built together endures.
Flo dedicated many years to serving her community as she spent a significant portion of her career at the International Institute, working as a transportation driver. This role allowed her to connect with individuals from all walks of life, showcasing her nurturing spirit. In 2018, she transitioned into retirement after owning and operating a cleaning business tailored to assist the elderly, continuing her commitment to uplifting her community.
Outside of her professional life, Flo was an active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, where she formed lasting relationships and became an integral part of her congregation. Her loving nature was mirrored in her various hobbies; whether it was camping under the stars, bowling strikes, or spending cozy evenings crocheting, Flo made time for the joys of life.
Her love for social gatherings was evident, especially at Russ’ Dinor, where she could be spotted enjoying the company of friends. Card games brought her laughter and camaraderie, and her heart glowed with pride when cheering for her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. One of her passions lay in genealogy—the intricate threads of family ancestry that she adored exploring.
Flo is survived by her five loving children: Paul Leonard, Cindy Myers, Debra Wisniewski (married to Jim), William Boyles, and Jean Kolb (married to Tom). As a grandmother, she took immense joy in watching her grandchildren grow, leaving a legacy of love and wisdom to James Wisniewski, Jeff Wisniewski, Jennifer Lanich, Steven Myers, Donnie Boyles, Abigail South, and Anna Lijewski. The warmth of her presence will forever be cherished not just by her children and grandchildren but also by her two sisters, Phyllis Hammer and Linda MacDonald.
In addition to her immediate family, Florence’s heart was shared with several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, creating a vast family tree filled with love. Sadly, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Soder, and her brother, David B. Gray.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., with calling hours set for Sunday, November 17th, from 4 PM until the funeral service at 7 PM. The service will be conducted by Rev. Thomas Glasoe. Following this heartfelt gathering, a private interment will take place at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
For those wishing to express their condolences, they can be sent through the funeral home’s website. Florence “Flo” Gray Boyles will be remembered not just for her service to others, her hearty laughter, and enthusiastic spirit but as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
