Florence, S.C. Rocked by Gunfire Incidents and Arrests

It seems that this past week has been anything but quiet in the cozy city of Florence, South Carolina. Authorities have been busy dealing with a surge in gunfire incidents that have prompted multiple arrests, much to the dismay of local residents seeking peace and security.

Friday Morning Frenzy

On a seemingly regular Friday morning, police received a concerning call about a man wielding a gun on the 400 Block of Jarrott Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found John Mitchell, who had reportedly engaged in a fiery argument at the Manna House just moments before shooting a gun in the direction of another individual. Luckily, there were no injuries reported; however, Mitchell now faces serious charges, including aggravated breach of peace and discharging a firearm within the city limits. After his tirade, he was taken into custody and sent to the Florence County Detention Center.

Search for Another Suspect

Adding to the tension, the Florence Police Department is also on the lookout for Auris Singletary, who is wanted for discharging a firearm within city limits related to a shots-fired incident on Sunday. This particular event unfolded at the Cambridge Court Apartments, where partygoers were enjoying a birthday bash when gunshots rang out around 11:30 p.m. Although several shell casings were discovered, remarkably, no injuries or property damage was reported. During a subsequent search warrant at the involved apartment, a stolen firearm was discovered, leading to the arrest of Oshante Bethea, the tenant, who now faces charges for possession of this stolen weapon.

A Wave of Arrests from Previous Incidents

The recent gunfire incidents have a larger context, as Florence police have arrested a total of five individuals in connection with a particularly alarming shooting that took place on July 29. In that event, multiple homes were struck by gunfire in the 900 block of Christopher Lane. Among those arrested is Ta’leya Sellers, who faces a potential lifetime behind bars with charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and three counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling. A juvenile suspect was also apprehended with similar charges, underscoring the troubling involvement of young individuals in violent acts.

Another suspect, Omarion James, was arrested on October 18 and now faces serious charges involving attempted murder and multiple counts related to reckless firearm use. Meanwhile, Triston Davis and Da’Mari Hyman have also been linked to the same incident, adding to the already staggering list of individuals in custody for this single incident.

Additional Arrests Linked to December Shooting

In a further twist, police have also made arrests in connection with a separate shooting that occurred on December 17, where shots were fired at two juveniles. On Christmas Day, Dwight Anthony Jenkins, aged 32, was taken into custody facing charges of attempted murder and other weapon-related offenses. Not long before Jenkins was apprehended, another suspect, Antonio Williams, was arrested and faces similar charges. Evidence gathered at the scene includes .45 caliber shell casings, a 9mm handgun, and even a live rifle round, contributing to a growing concern about the use of firearms in dangerous situations in Florence.

Conclusion

With the total number of suspects related to the July shooting rising to seven, it’s clear that the Florence Police Department is on high alert, fully committed to tackling this pressing issue of gun violence. Local residents must be feeling a mix of concern and relief as authorities work tirelessly to bring these incidents under control. As they continue their investigation and search for additional suspects, one can only hope that peace will once again settle over the streets of Florence.
