The residents of the City of Florence need to take important precautions following a directive from the city’s water authorities. A boil water advisory has been issued due to a significant water main break in the heart of the city. This precautionary measure affects several blocks in the city, including the 400 to 800 blocks of South Church Street, 400 to 800 blocks of South Barringer Street, the 300 block of Ervin Street, East Campbell Street, Prince Street, Noble Street, the 200 block of East Elm Street, the 400 to 700 blocks of Jarrott Street, and the 400 block of Railroad Avenue.

The Reason for Boil Water Advisory

The advisory was issued after a six-inch water main break occurred in the 600 block of South Church Street. By the time the services are restored, the boil water advisory would be in place for the residents of the aforementioned areas. This disruption in water services allows the possibility of bacteriological contamination into the water system, hence the advisory.

The City of Florence has declared that there have been no confirmed contamination reports as yet. However, due to the drop in pressure caused by the main break, a slight potential of bacteriological contamination exists. Hence, the advisory is purely a preventive measure.

Steps for Public Safety

The citizens of the impacted areas are advised to boil their tap water for a minute before using it for drinking or cooking. This directive will stay in effect until the city completes tests for bacteriological quality.

Meanwhile, services are expected to be restored by the end of Monday. Residents should anticipate another disruption on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. as crews will be conducting necessary repairs. Despite the impending outage, the boil water advisory will remain effective until the water system is declared safe following the test results.
