Having served for an impressive 26 years with FSD3, Feagin is no stranger to the educational landscape in Florence. In her current role as the Chief Operations Officer, she has been involved in various leadership functions that have prepared her for this moment. Prior to this, Feagin showcased her skills as the Senior Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and also held the position of Principal at Lake City High School.
Feagin’s journey with the district includes a variety of roles, such as Director of Assessment and Accountability, Director of Virtual Learning & Assessment, and Director of Career and Technology Education. All these positions have allowed her to develop a well-rounded perspective on what it takes to lead a school district effectively. It’s clear that her long-standing relationship with FSD3 will bring stability amidst the current transition.
The board was keen to highlight their aim of ensuring continuous leadership and stability during this period of change. They also took into account the candidates recommended by Dr. Hickson herself, showing a commitment to maintaining the momentum that has been built over the past decade.
Feagin wasn’t the only candidate vying for the interim superintendent role. The board also interviewed Dr. Yvonne Commodore, who has served as the Director of Social and Emotional Learning and boasts a Doctorate in Education. Alongside her, Ned Blake, the District’s Director of Secondary Education, was also in the running. Blake brings a wealth of experience, having spent 25 years in various roles within the district, including a stint as Principal of Lake City High School.
Despite the tough competition, Feagin’s appointment is widely seen as a positive step forward for the district, especially given her long-standing commitment to fostering academic excellence.
