Other local districts are making similar schedule adjustments in response to the weather. With safety as a priority, parents and students are urged to stay updated on these changes.
Florence Students Get Ready for Make-Up Days After Winter Storm
Hey there, Florence! It looks like winter weather played a little trick on our schools, but Florence School District 3 is bouncing back with a schedule adjustment that parents and students need to know about. Following closures due to a recent winter storm, the district has announced some important make-up days to help students catch up on lost instructional time.
Mark Your Calendars!
So here’s the scoop: February 13, 14, and 17 are now going to be regular school days instead of the previously scheduled intercession days. That means kids will be back in the classroom, ready to learn and engage with their teachers. Plus, February 12 will be a full school day, meaning no early dismissals on that date! You can wave goodbye to any thoughts of a long weekend because school is officially on!
Why the Change?
The reason for these adjustments? State law requires that students make up missed instructional days after a district has already employed five e-learning days. With the inclement weather leading to closures, it’s essential that the district takes action to ensure every student has the chance to learn and make up for lost time.
Other Districts Are Making Changes Too
Georgetown County School District has announced that all schools will be closed on Friday, and students won’t have to worry about any e-learning assignments that day. Meanwhile, Darlington County School District plans to keep its normal schedule, but Dillon School District Three will operate on a two-hour delay while still providing breakfast and lunch to its students.
On the other hand, Dillon School District Four is also opting for a two-hour delay on Friday but will only serve lunch. Marion County School District, however, will close again on Friday due to hazardous road conditions. It’s all about keeping our kids safe!
University Updates
Colleges aren’t left out of the mix either! Coastal Carolina University will stick to remote classes on Friday as well, with staff working remotely. Meanwhile, Francis Marion University is set to reopen and start classes at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Coker University will conduct remote classes until noon on Thursday, and Horry-Georgetown Technical College will continue with online instruction on Friday.
Florence-Darlington Technical College is taking a little break—remaining closed through Thursday but reopening on Friday. And Robeson Community College will be hosting remote classes on Friday as well, putting a halt to all events scheduled for that day.
Staying Informed
With all these changes happening in Florence and surrounding areas, it’s essential for parents, students, and staff to stay in the loop. Communication from the school district and local educational institutions is key to ensuring everyone is prepared for the changes resulting from the winter storm.
So, Florence, brace yourselves for some exciting school days ahead. Let’s hope the weather clears up soon, and everyone stays safe!
