Community in Shock After Deadly Shooting in Florence County

Florence, South Carolina – A wave of sadness has engulfed the community here after a tragic shooting incident unfolded at the Liberty Street Apartments on Wednesday. This shocking event has left one young life lost and another in critical condition.

Details of the Incident

According to local authorities, around midnight, 19-year-old Yabriah Latia Lewis, of Johnsonville, was driving when her passenger, identified as 21-year-old Kalebsolik Daron Singletary, exited the vehicle on Deerfield Road and began firing multiple rounds into a parked car. The parked vehicle contained six individuals, and, sadly, the gunfire resulted in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old named Jakarta Doctor. Another victim was severely injured and is currently undergoing treatment.

Suspect Arrested

In a swift reaction, law enforcement managed to apprehend Lewis on Friday. She has been charged with a slew of serious offenses, including murder, five counts of attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy. Authorities have confirmed that Lewis is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center without bond.

Ongoing Search for the Second Suspect

While Lewis is now in custody, deputies continue their search for Singletary, who remains at large. He is described as a young man, standing about 6’1″ tall and weighing approximately 169 pounds. The community has been urged to assist law enforcement in their quest to locate Singletary. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact investigators at (843) 665-2121, ext. 80169.

Community Reactions

The news of this incident has left many in Florence reeling. Local residents expressed their disbelief and sorrow over the loss of such a young life and the violence that took place in their neighborhood. Community members gathered to support each other, sharing fond memories of Jakarta and offering prayers for those affected by the shooting.

“It’s heartbreaking to see something like this happen here,” one resident shared. “We always thought our area was safe, but events like this make you realize that we need to look out for one another even more.”

Understanding the Impact

Violence in our communities often leaves scars that run deep. The loss of a child from such an act is especially devastating and touches the hearts of everyone involved, including friends, family, and even those who may not have personally known the victim. Jakarta’s untimely passing serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by gun violence, prompting calls for increased awareness and action within the community.

Looking Forward

As this situation continues to develop, the Florence County community holds its breath, hoping for justice for Jakarta and healing for the injured victim. The authorities are working diligently to ensure safety in the area and urging anyone with leads that could assist in the investigation to come forward.

In times like these, it’s crucial for communities to come together, support one another, and push for a brighter future devoid of violence. The residents of Florence are determined to honor the memory of those affected by this tragedy while advocating for change and security within their streets.
