Another incident nearby saw gunfire around a convenience store. Authorities are investigating and searching for suspects as the community expresses concern over safety and violence.
Florence, South Carolina, has recently been shaken by a string of shooting incidents, with one particularly heart-wrenching event involving an innocent child. Residents are reminded of the importance of safety and vigilance in their neighborhoods.
In an alarming development, an 8-year-old girl is currently recovering from injuries sustained in her own home on Willow Trace Court. The incident occurred when a bullet, fired from an AR-15, accidentally struck her. The gun was reportedly being cleaned by a man living upstairs, and the bullet passed through the floor, hitting the young girl while she was enjoying dinner with her family.
This tragic accident has raised concerns in the community. Fortunately, the child was swiftly taken to the hospital by car and is now on the road to recovery. However, questions remain about whether any criminal charges will be filed in response to this distressing event.
In a separate incident, police were called to the 2700 Block of South Irby Street near a Circle K convenience store after reports of gunfire. It turns out that a victim from a shooting at the nearby Deerfield Apartments sought help at the store. Following the incident, she drove herself there for assistance.
While the injuries she sustained were serious enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, officials have confirmed that they are not life-threatening. Thankfully, she is expected to be released soon. However, the police have clarified that the Circle K was not the scene of the initial shooting, which raises questions and concerns among residents about safety in the area.
Florence Police are actively compiling information regarding the shooting incidents and are currently searching for a suspect, identified as Horace Alexander Smith II. Authorities believe he may be driving a distinctive gold Honda Civic with black passenger side doors and a unique front fender. Security footage suggests that Smith may have left town following the shooting, prompting a multi-agency effort to locate him and the vehicle.
This particular shooting is thought to be of a domestic nature, as Smith has been identified as the ex-boyfriend of the victim. This raises concerns about domestic violence and the safety of individuals in potentially dangerous situations.
As if the recent events weren’t enough to rattle the community, Florence police have also been making strides in a separate investigation linked to a summers shooting incident. They had reported a series of arrests related to a shooting that occurred back on July 29, which injured several homes but thankfully caused no direct injuries to individuals.
So far, seven suspects have been apprehended, which includes a juvenile charged with attempted murder and various firearm offenses. Notable among the arrested are 20-year-old Ta’leya Sellers and 19-year-old Da’Mari Hyman, among others. These individuals face serious charges, including possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
During the investigation, police were able to recover a vehicle linked to the shooting, and fingerprints tying suspects to the scene were identified. This meticulous work underlines the importance and commitment of law enforcement to ensuring community safety and holding perpetrators accountable.
In light of these incidents, there has been a palpable sense of unease in Florence. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities. Community engagement and safety awareness are essential as we all work together to maintain the security of our neighborhoods.
The unfortunate series of events serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures, whether at home or in public spaces. As the investigations continue, the community hopes for a swift resolution and a return to peace and security.
