Florence Woman Arrested on Accessory, Drug Charges

In a shocking turn of events, a Florence woman known for her connection to a murder case was taken into custody by Florence Police. The woman, reputed as the fiancée of a man involved in a fatal standoff with Florence police in July, now faces charges of being an accessory after the fact and the distribution of methamphetamine.

Details of Arrest

Lynette Dawn King, 41 years of age, was arrested on Wednesday and remains in the Florence County Detention Center as she awaits a bond hearing. King initially came to notice after her association with her fiancé Matthew Barry, who was wanted for murder.

prior Murder Case

On July 21, Idris Cooper, a 34-year-old man, was shot dead at the Colonial Gardens apartments. Barry, who was present with King at the time of the incident, became the prime suspect in the murder case. The following night, as authorities approached the Brittany Place apartment complex to arrest Barry, a standoff ensued that resulted in Barry getting shot and killed by the police.

Involvement in Drug Activities

Following King’s arrest, police revealed shocking information. Upon investigation using a body scanner, police discovered that King had a dispenser containing a mixture of drugs, including 4.5 grams of methamphetamine, hidden inside her body. Further adding to the drama, King reportedly consumed some of the narcotics, including fentanyl, when she was taken in for medical treatment. The police were able to recover the remaining drugs from under her bed covers. The medical team treated King for several days post the incident before she was taken to jail

Evidence Uncovered

Digging deeper into the homicide of Cooper, investigators discovered evidence that linked King to the murder scene. According to reports, authorities found data on Cooper’s phone showing a call made to King just past midnight on the morning of Cooper’s murder. Surveillance footage from the same night showed Barry and King leaving and returning to their apartment around the time of the shooting. Following this information, a search of a 2013 Toyota Camry, which was occupied by King and Barry on the night of the shooting, resulted in the discovery of two shell casings and blood stains inside the car.

The ongoing investigation continues to unravel shocking details and connections, shedding light on the underlying criminal activities. Alongside the murder case, the drug charges faced by Lynette Dawn King serve as a grim reminder of the pervading issue of narcotics in our society. Public safety remains a primary concern, and efforts to tackle such heinous crimes are crucial in maintaining the peace and harmony of our community.
