New Food Lion at Florence Mall Set its Grand Opening Date
Florence, South Carolina is set to open the doors of its newest grocery store. The much-anticipated Food Lion at Florence Mall has announced its grand opening date for August 7. The supermarket chain will be taking over one of the shopping center’s largest anchor locations, adding to the half a dozen Food Lion stores already serving the Florence community.
Replacing the Piggly Wiggly
The Food Lion will be stepping into the former location of Piggly Wiggly, which closed its doors in the middle of 2022 after providing for the Florence community for around 50 years. The last remaining Piggly Wiggly in Florence is located on Cherokee Road near Irby Street.
A Boost for Local Business
The announcement of the new Food Lion follows a slew of recent openings and planned ventures aimed at rejuvenating Florence’s local business sector. Over the past few months, the area around Pamplico Highway has welcomed new restaurants including Slim Chickens, Dunkin’, and El Dos Agaves.
Not far from the new Food Lion at Florence Mall, a bargain outlet store named Ben’s was launched in early July, offering consumers a variety of retail merchandise at cheaper prices than other major chain stores.
New Spots in Downtown Florence
Revitalizing activities are not just limited to the area around the mall. Downtown Florence too, is witnessing a surge in new businesses. Smiling Scoops, a local ice-cream parlor, conducted its grand opening in early July, while Jack’s Books, an independent bookstore, is set to open its doors this Fall season. Florence’s only independent bookseller, Jack’s poses as a welcome addition to the city’s local businesses.
