Food Lion Cuts Ribbon on Florence Mall Store Despite Tropical Storm Debby

Grand Opening Unaffected by the Approaching Storm

In the face of Tropical Storm Debby making landfall for a second time in South Carolina, Food Lion, the prominent grocery chain, braved the storm and conducted the grand opening of its new store located at Florence Mall.

Amanda Craven, who oversees the store operations from Lumberton, welcomed the crowd, “We didn’t even let the hurricane get in our way. Rain or shine you can count on Food Lion.”

Welcoming the Community

The grand opening of the store saw a considerable turnout. People had lined up, stretching around the corner of the store, all the way to the entrance of Red Bone Alley at the Florence Mall.

The store manager, David Smith, thanked everyone for their attendance, “I’d like to thank you all for joining us here today. My team and I know you count on us every day to deliver easy, fresh and affordable shopping experiences. We take that responsibility seriously,” Smith said.

The first 100 customers witnessed a warm welcome, receiving a random gift card and a reusable shopping bag at the store’s grand opening event.

New Features and Services

“We are really excited to welcome the community into our new store,” Craven stated. With shining brightly under spotless, polished surfaces, the newly inaugurated store at Florence Mall boasted a wide variety of products and added facilities. “We have a lot more assortment and variety in this store than we had before. It’s a exciting day to show the community what we have to share in this new location.”

The added services include expanded deli options, fresh hand-battered chicken, and fresh salads, sandwiches and sushi made in the store. Patrons can look forward to an Asian bar and a unique wing bar — available by the pound. Moreover, they offer online grocery shopping and a mix of self- and cashier-assisted checkouts.

A Tradition of Service

As part of its tradition, Food Lion continues to serve those in need. At the inauguration, the store donated 25,000 meals to Harvest Hope Food Bank, along with 10 additional meals for everyone who turned out for the ribbon cutting. They also donated a $25,000 check to the food bank.

Despite the presence of Tropical Storm Debby, the event marked a successful launch for the new Food Lion store at the Florence Mall. This new establishment replaces the former Cashua Drive store, representing the closing of an old chapter and the beginning of a new one in the Florence community. With its added features, special offers, and continuity of its tradition of service, the new shopping center seems well equipped to brave any storm that comes its way.
