The long-awaited day for the literature lovers in Florence is on the horizon. The city’s only independent bookstore, Jack’s Books, has finally set the opening date. After months of extensive planning and renovations, the locally-owned bookstore is schedule to open doors to the public on October 26.
Jack’s Books is an independent bookstore initiated by Colton Cauthen, who announced the bookstore in April 2023. The announcement led thousands of potential customers to avidly follow the bookstore’s Facebook page in anticipation of updates, trivia games, and hidden details of the store.
The bookstore’s launch brings an end to the city’s long-crowing need for an independent bookstore, that was previously fulfilled by large retailers and big box stores. While Florence did have independent bookstores in the late 1990s and early 2000s, there hasn’t been one until Cauthen decided to bridge the gap.
After months of building bookshelves and planning, Cauthen intrepidly aims to house a collection ranging between 2,500 to 3,000 books in the store. It will boast of an almost even mix of new and used books, all carefully chosen by Cauthen, which will be accompanied by a few gift items for the customers.
The bookstore is located strategically between Dargan Street’s Wholly Smokin’ and Leaf Lounge eateries. Cauthen stayed tight-lipped about the extensive interior renovations, choosing to surprise his customers with the actual in-person experience of the bookstore.
While the operational hours of the bookstore are still being finalized, customers can satiate their literary appetites by purchasing audio-books from the bookstore’s website in the meantime.
The opening of Jack’s Books is not only an occasion to rejoice for the bookworms of Florence but also a significant addition to the growing local business sector of Florence. The newly renovated, stocked up store opening on October 26th will offer much choice and independence to book lovers in the city.
