A 41-year-old individual died 10 days after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 close to Florence. The fatal accident occurred in mid-July, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Leo Kea, a resident of Charlotte, emerged as the unfortunate victim of this gruesome crash, Coroner Keith von Lutcken confirmed. The collision transpired around 10:50 p.m. on July 18. The vehicles involved in the crash were a 2020 tractor-trailer and a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu. They collided while journeying south on I-95, approximately a mile north of Florence, as per SCHP Lance Cpl. Lena Butler.
Being critically injured, the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was hastily transported to a local hospital by an emergency vehicle. Despite enduring ten challenging days post-accident, Leo Kea sadly passed away this Sunday, Butler added. The driver of the truck, however, did not sustain any injuries in the collision.
With the initial details of the accident now being verified and shared, further inquiries into the fatal accident are ongoing. Precise factors leading to the accident, such as the speed of both vehicles at the point of impact and the visibility and road conditions, are yet to be identified. No additional information was made accessible immediately after the mishap.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has requested any witnesses or individuals with relevant information about the crash to step forward to assist their ongoing investigations.
The crash intruded into the late-night traffic on Interstate 95 near Florence, leading to significant disruptions. Earlier reports indicated that traffic on the southbound lane of I-95 was temporarily held up to enable the accident investigators to gather evidence from the crash scene. Normal traffic flow was restored later.
