Florence, S.C. — It’s been a busy few weeks for law enforcement in Florence, as officials have made significant progress on a case that left the community rattled over the summer. Following a shooting that endangered multiple families, a seventh and final suspect has now been arrested, rounding out a series of apprehensions that have unfolded since October.
It all began back on July 29, when police were called to the 900 block of Christopher Lane following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered that three mobile homes had been struck by bullets. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the potential for tragedy was apparent. Witnesses noted a group of individuals at the scene, and it quickly became clear that one or more of these suspects directed their fire at a juvenile who was present.
In the aftermath, law enforcement officials utilized the city’s Flock camera system to gather crucial evidence. This technology allows police to track vehicles associated with criminal activities, and it was instrumental in identifying the suspects involved in this alarming incident.
The first major breakthrough came on October 18 with the arrest of Omarion James, who was charged with one count of attempted murder and three counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling. This was followed by the arrest of Triston Davis on October 23, who faced similar charges. Davis was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, alongside three counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling.
Moving into the next week, police continued to make headway. Da’Mari Hyman was arrested on October 24, also facing charges of attempted murder and multiple counts related to discharging a firearm.
Adding to the complexity, officials confirmed that a juvenile thought to be involved was apprehended while in possession of a stolen vehicle. This youth has now been placed in the Department of Juvenile Justice and is facing charges in another county as well. Not resting on their laurels, police arrested another juvenile, who was quickly charged with attempted murder and other serious offenses.
The arrests didn’t stop there. A third juvenile boy was taken into custody on October 26, again charged with serious crimes related to the shooting incident.
In a news release, Florence police expressed gratitude for the diligent work of their officers and investigation team, stating: “At this time, we believe that all suspects involved in this case have been arrested.” The team emphasizes that not only do they aim to bring justice for the victims, but they also want to enhance the safety of the community every single day.
The incidents that occurred this July shook the Florence community. Residents can breathe a little easier now that the suspects are in custody, but it serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between police and the community. The hard work put in by law enforcement to bring these individuals to justice showcases their commitment to keeping Florence safe.
As the investigations continue to unfold, more information may come to light. For now, the arrests signal a positive step towards addressing the violence that occurred and protecting the residents of this vibrant community.
