Florence, SC – In a heartwarming celebration of community service, a Florence man has been recognized for his unwavering dedication to giving back. Carlos Washington, a long-time volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee area, has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award.
This award, named after the late founder and chairwoman of the NASCAR Foundation, honors individuals who are making a significant impact in the lives of children through charitable efforts. It shines a spotlight on those who embody a spirit of generosity and service, qualities that Betty Jane France championed during her lifetime.
Carlos is in esteemed company as one of four finalists, each representing the spirit of giving that the NASCAR community embodies. Along with Carlos, the other finalists – Tammy, Judy, and Julie – have all dedicated their time and energy to improve the lives of children through various local organizations.
The finalists were recently surprised with the news during a live appearance on a show called Speedway with Dave Moody on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. It was a joyous moment, reflecting the profound impact of their work on the communities they serve.
All four finalists share a common goal: to enhance the lives of children in their local racing communities. Their outstanding volunteer efforts demonstrate a commitment to service and highlight the importance of nurturing the next generation. According to Mike Helton, the NASCAR Foundation Chairman, “This year’s award finalists exemplify the generosity of our NASCAR community. Their volunteer efforts have significantly impacted the lives of children in our local racing communities, a passion for helping others which was championed by Betty Jane France.”
Each finalist will receive a minimum donation of $25,000 for their respective organizations, which will undoubtedly aid them in their continued efforts to support and uplift young people. However, the excitement intensifies as the finalist who receives the most votes will see their organization awarded a whopping $100,000 donation from the NASCAR Foundation. What a fantastic incentive to rally support for these incredible individuals!
Voting for the award is now open, and fans across the country are encouraged to get involved. You can cast your vote on the NASCAR Foundation’s website up until November 18 at 6 p.m. Votes can be submitted once a day, giving everyone ample opportunity to support their favorite finalist. The excitement culminates on November 22, when the winner will be announced during the NASCAR Awards ceremony in Charlotte.
As we look forward to the announcement, it’s essential to recognize the invaluable contributions of Carlos Washington and his fellow finalists. Their stories not only inspire hope but also encourage all of us to get involved and make a difference in our communities. Every bit of help counts in changing the lives of children and fostering environments where they can thrive.
So, let’s rally around these incredible volunteers and the causes they support, and make our voices heard by voting! Together, we can celebrate the spirit of giving that defines our communities and honor the legacy of Betty Jane France.
