Florence County’s Lydia’s Nest Continues Its Uplifting Journey for Those in Need
A van to serve as an extended helping hand for the Florence-based organization
FLORENCE, S.C – The Florence County community witnessed an extraordinary act of anonymous donation this week. Lydia’s Nest, a local organization aimed at preventing poverty and food insecurity, was gifted with a Ram ProMaster Van to facilitate its operations in serving the underprivileged.

Founded by Dr. Barbara Black, Lydia’s Nest has been a beacon of hope in the Johnsonville community of Florence County. The organization strives to eliminate poverty and food insecurity in Johnsonville and its neighboring regions by addressing immediate needs and offering support in various areas. Among the numerous services it provides are food distribution, parenting support, life skill workshops, and health and wellness education. Their continuous effort aims at creating a resilient, empowered community with long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
A Generous Contribution
The van, an unexpected gift from an undisclosed donor, will now significantly influence the organization’s functionality. Openly expressing her gratitude, Dr. Barbara Black mentioned that the van would be instrumental in picking up food for their pantry and fulfilling other essential needs. “This donation is a true blessing. It will significantly enhance our ability to serve our community.”

Over the past year alone, Lydia’s Nest has provided more than 6,000 meals to families in the community. With this newly received transportation, the organization is all set to extend their reach significantly. “With this new van, we can increase our outreach and support even more individuals and families in need” said Dr. Barbara Black.

Dr. Barbara Black, on a personal note, shared that the much-needed van was a part of the vision she had last year. “What amazed me most is that this was actually one of the items I put on my vision board last year. Just to see God move in this way just still amazes me every time” she added.
