Exciting Growth in Florence with New Homes Coming to Smith’s Field

Florence, the heart of the Pee Dee region, is buzzing with some exciting news! City Council members have recently given the green light for the construction of 44 new homes in the charming Smith’s Field subdivision off West Palmetto Street. This is part of a larger project, where the subdivision will eventually feature a whopping 152 lots!

What’s Happening in Smith’s Field?

Let’s dive into the details! The new homes will be sprouting up along Suzanne and Woodbine Drive. Planning Manager Jerry Dudley shared with us that these homes are actually the second phase of the subdivision. Council members made the decision to approve the annexation of this batch of homes on September 9. They’re building on the success of the first phase, which saw 48 homes annexed back in May 2023.

But wait, there’s more! A third phase is already in the works, bringing an additional 60 homes to the area in the near future. Talk about a booming neighborhood!

Quality Homes for Families

These upcoming homes aren’t just practical; they’re being designed to be visually appealing as well! Each lot will average about 6,000 square feet, perfect for a single-family home. Many of these new residences will be adorned with brick facades and will even come equipped with two-car garages. How great is that?

Florence’s Growing Community

The Smith’s Field addition is part of a broader trend of development happening in Florence. The city is experiencing quite a population boost, with approvals for 656 new homes in two different subdivisions just earlier this year. In June, the Florence Planning Commission also gave the go-ahead for five new townhomes close to downtown. Clearly, Florence is a hotspot for folks looking to settle down.

According to Dudley, the city already has thousands more homes permitted for construction in the pipeline for the coming years. This growth signifies a thriving community, making Florence a desirable place to live and raise a family.

Community Events and Local News

Meanwhile, in other local news, changes in employment conditions are stirring up conversations. A former employee has filed a discrimination lawsuit against a local restaurant, claiming she was fired upon disclosing her pregnancy. These stories remind us that while the city is growing, its challenges are also evolving.
