Sponsor Our ArticlesFlorence residents are set to welcome a brand new shopping center anchored by Publix, opening in late 2026. The center will feature retail spaces and dining options, creating around 140 jobs for locals. Construction is expected to begin soon, transforming a key intersection into a vibrant community hub. This development is highly anticipated, as a recent poll showed that 53% of locals want a Publix in the area, making it a significant addition to the Florence shopping landscape.
If you’re a resident of Florence, you’re in for some big news! Get ready to welcome a new shopping center that is set to bring an array of shopping and dining experiences right to your neighborhood. That’s right, a brand new shopping center is set to open its doors in late 2026, and it’s going to be anchored by none other than Publix!
The Morgan Companies, a name known for its impressive commercial developments over the past 45 years, is taking the lead on this exciting project. They’re already planning to acquire the land located at the bustling intersection of West Palmetto Street and South Ebenezer Road. With construction slated to kick off later this year, the shopping center is certainly shaping up to become a hot spot in Florence.
Let’s talk about the star of the show – the Publix supermarket. This expansive grocery store will cover a whopping 46,791 square feet and is expected to create around 140 job opportunities for locals. It’s about time for Florence residents to enjoy the convenience of having a Publix nearby, especially considering that the nearest store is currently a 90-minute drive away in Carolina Forest!
But that’s not all. The shopping center will include an additional 18,050 square feet of retail space! This means there’s plenty of room for even more shops to set up shop. On top of the Publix, there’s going to be 11,550 square feet of retail space located just to the west of the supermarket. Plus, a 3,500-square-foot building is planned for either restaurant or retail use at the west corner of the property—so you might soon have a new favorite dining spot!
This shopping center isn’t just for shopping; it promises to become a vibrant community hub. With three additional outparcels located to the east of the Publix, it aims to attract a variety of tenants. The vision is clear! Personal services, delightful restaurants, and more retail options will make this shopping center a place for locals to gather and enjoy.
Another notable detail is that the shopping center will back up to Sneed Middle School on South Ebenezer Road. This feature is likely to make it a convenient spot for parents and school staff to pop in for groceries or a bite to eat after school activities.
If you’re wondering how popular the idea of a Publix in Florence is, look no further than a 2024 online poll conducted by The Post and Courier Pee Dee. A whopping 53% of voters expressed their desire for a Publix to be brought to their town, highlighting just how eager the community is for this new addition.
The Morgan Companies currently operates shopping centers in Texas and across the East Coast, making this their second venture in South Carolina. With much anticipation building over the next few years, the shopping center in Florence promises to be a landmark project that will elevate the shopping experience for locals.
As the leasing agents, Wes Thurman and Robey Spratt from Atlantic Retail are stepping in to bring in some exciting tenants to fill the shopping center. This is a fantastic opportunity to support local businesses while also welcoming well-loved chains that will enhance the community’s retail landscape.
So, mark your calendars for late 2026! Florence is set to shine as a premier shopping destination with the opening of this new shopping center, and we couldn’t be more excited to see it come to life. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some delicious new restaurants, cozy cafes, and all the shopping gems we can dream of!
