As we wave goodbye to September, we’re also saying farewell to those beautiful 7 p.m. sunsets. That’s right, Monday marked the last evening where the sun dipped below the horizon at that hour before we welcome longer nights until next spring. The air is buzzing with excitement as the seasons are definitely changing! It’s time for cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice everything, right?
As temperatures cool down tonight, we can expect mild to cool weather with some partly cloudy skies wrapping us in a cozy blanket of clouds. If you’re out and about, don’t be surprised if you encounter a little patchy fog developing late tonight into early Wednesday morning. It’s that magical time of year when the chill fills the air, creating those lovely atmospheric vibes.
When you wake up on Wednesday, don’t fret about the fog – it’ll fade away by late morning, making room for partly sunny skies as we head into the afternoon. Temperatures will rise into those lovely low 80s across the board, with a gentle breeze and a hint of humidity in the air. Sounds like a perfect day to enjoy some time outdoors!
Thursday is shaping up to be another delightful day, mirroring what we’ll experience on Wednesday. With the mercury lingering in the low 80s, you might just want to grab a friend for a walk along the beach or enjoy a delightful backyard barbecue! How does that sound? The weekend’s weather looks similarly splendid, so make sure you carve out some time for fun in the sun.
In fantastic news for outdoor enthusiasts, our chances of rain are pretty slim this week. The next opportunity for showers or storms looks to make an entrance next Monday with a back-door cold front pushing through. Light rain might just be what we need to freshen things up!
What’s more exciting is that once that front passes, it’s going to bring in cooler air, marking the first real taste of fall for the Pee Dee and Grand Strand areas! As we roll into the second week of October, expect those brisk autumn temperatures that make cozy evenings by the fire all the more inviting.
With all this dry weather, let’s keep an eye on our local rivers! They flow from western North Carolina, and with the recent weather events, another rise in levels is anticipated. Good news though, most of the rain from Hurricane Helene was spread east of the Continental Divide, which means it won’t significantly affect our immediate area. However, some rain did occur upstream of the Pee Dee and Santee watersheds, so we can expect a small rise in river levels down the line. Just a heads-up!
As for right now, here’s what we see: The Waccamaw River at Conway is gearing up to crest into minor flood stage by Wednesday and will remain steady through the weekend. Meanwhile, the Great Pee Dee at Pee Dee is on the rise, expected to hit moderate flood stage by Wednesday and slowly fall into the minor flood stage next week.
The tropics are also heating up, so keep tuned in for updates about any activity happening out on the Atlantic waters. For continuous updates and alerts tailored to your area, ensure you have your weather apps set to receive notifications!
As we step into October, let’s embrace the changes around us while keeping our spirits high. Here’s to a delightful autumn ahead!
