Community Comes Together for Young R.J. Wilson in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. — A great sense of community spirit is stirring in Florence as residents rally to support a remarkable young boy named Rondell “R.J.” Wilson. At just 5 years old, R.J. is gearing up to start kindergarten at Royall Elementary this fall, but his journey hasn’t been an easy one. Born with a rare condition known as tetra-amelia syndrome, R.J. faces unique challenges, having been born without all four limbs. Yet, despite this, his resilient spirit shines bright, and he has overcome so much already.
Those who know him often speak of his incredible love for coloring and his deep affection for his little sister, Jaslynn. R.J. is known for his contagious smile and his sweet sense of humor that keeps everyone around him laughing. A statement from Cooks for Christ captured his essence perfectly, highlighting how his attitude brings joy to those who meet him.
Upcoming Benefit Chicken Bog Sale
On September 12, Cooks for Christ will host a benefit chicken bog sale specifically to support R.J. and his family. The event will take place at the West Florence Fire Station, located at 3379 Pine Needles Road. Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., making it easy for everyone in the community to stop by for lunch or dinner. If you’re short on time, don’t worry—there will be drive-thru lanes open for your convenience, so you can grab your meal on the go!
For just $10, diners can enjoy a delicious meal that includes chicken bog, green beans, slaw, and bread. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a comforting meal while also making a meaningful contribution to R.J.’s life. And that’s not all; there will also be a bake sale running all day, offering sweet treats for everyone who stops in.
Why R.J. Needs Our Help
The funds raised from this fundraiser will go towards remodeling the family’s bathroom and providing specialized equipment tailored to help support R.J.’s unique needs. These improvements can make a significant difference in R.J.’s level of independence and improve his overall quality of life. Every plate purchased will contribute to these vital modifications, allowing R.J. to thrive and navigate his world with a bit more ease.
If you’d like to donate but can’t make it to the event, donations can be made by writing checks payable to the Rondell “R.J.” Wilson Medical Fund. Every little bit helps, and it’s heartening to see how generous the Florence community can be when rallying around their own.
