FLORENCE, S.C. – A sunny afternoon turned dark on a bustling West Evans Street when a dispute escalated into a deadly shooting incident. The victim, who succumbed to the brutal attack is now identified as 33-year-old Lydell Preston Titus of Florence.
On Wednesday afternoon, a simmering disagreement between Titus and the alleged shooter, Dino Piere Scott, quickly spiraled into a tragic event. The rift led to Scott retrieving a handgun and firing multiple times at Titus, resulting in the latter’s fatal injury.
The rapid gunfire sent shockwaves through the crowd, with many witnesses describing the horrifying sequence of events.
Florence Police Department, in response to numerous 911 calls, arrived swiftly at the crime scene even as concerned citizens crowded around the grisly spectacle. A search warrant was quickly executed following preliminary information from the on-scene witnesses.
The residence where the shooting transpired was subsequently searched by the officials. During the process, they discovered the murder weapon, a handgun, that was found to be stolen. The shocking revelations did not end there, with Scott being arrested at the scene without resistance.
Scott faces a multitude of charges in relation to the lethal incident; murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, possession of a stolen weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
With these serious charges looming over him, Scott now awaits judicial proceedings while confined in police custody.
The body of Titus is slated for autopsy at MUSC later this week as part of the homicide investigation.
