Joyce passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2024, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and delicious home-cooked meals that will not be forgotten.
The family has planned a funeral service to honor Joyce’s life on January 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, a place where many cherished memories will be shared. The service will be officiated by Rev. Chuck McKnight, who knows how to capture the spirit of a family gathering like no one else.
After the service, Joyce will be laid to rest in Anson Memorial Park, ensuring she is surrounded by nature and memories of a life spent caring for others. Before the memorial service, family and friends are welcome to greet the family on January 2, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home. This is a chance to share stories, laughter, and tears as everyone remembers their beloved Joyce.
Born on October 7, 1941, in Anson County, Joyce was the proud daughter of the late Harvey Horne and Myrtle Mills Gregory. She spent her early years in the area, attending schools in Mecklenburg County before returning to her roots in Anson County.
Joyce’s career was spent at Anson County Schools, where she worked in the cafeteria of Anson High School. She was known for her kindness and dedication, nourishing the students not just with good food but with genuine warmth that made everyone feel like family.
A woman of faith, Joyce had a long-standing connection with the Wadesboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, where her grandmother, Ila Mae Mills, served as the church pianist. Later in life, she found a loving community at Southside Baptist Church, emphasizing the importance of her church family. She made friends there that she cherished deeply.
Joyce was not just a homemaker; she was a remarkable cook known for her delicious recipes and her renowned garden, particularly her mouthwatering tomatoes. Friends and family looked forward to her meals with anticipation, knowing they would be treated to something special.
Joyce was a devoted mother to her children Jan Cox (Mike Brown), Mike McIntyre (Dana), Kim Johnson (Scott), and Tammy Edwards (Donnie). Her pride and joy were undoubtedly her grandchildren, including Joy Richardson (Tim), Carli Northcutt (Steve), and so many others. She absolutely adored her great-grandchildren as well, showering them with attention and affection. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Louise Caudle.
While her husband, Wayne McIntyre, as well as her sister, Judy Rivellese, have passed, Joyce’s spirit lives on in the hearts of her family. The family also wishes to extend special thanks to her granddaughters and niece for their unwavering care during Joyce’s illness.
Joyce will undoubtedly be missed by many. Her love for music was evident; she found joy in listening to Jimmy Swaggart and the Gaither Homecoming Friends, songs that often echoed through her home. Her beloved dog, Bella, brought her much comfort, and her warmth and laughter will be a lasting memory.
